4th annual PCB Fishing Rodeo kicks off at Captain Anderson’s Marina
Kids clinic draws 200 despite weather on opening day
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -The 4th annual PCB Fishing Rodeo kicked off at Captain Anderson’s Marina.
Day one of the fishing rodeo began with a kid’s clinic that included a touch tank, free rods and bouncy houses.
Tournament fishing started at midnight, with scales opening at 10 a.m. The rodeo includes divisions for paddle boarding, shore fishing and boats of many sizes.
Registration is available online, and proceeds go toward building artificial reefs and funding marine education.
Mike Sullivan, a charter captain at Captain Anderson’s Marina and fishing rodeo volunteer, said the kid’s clinic has been part of the event for five years.
“Today is the first day of our 9-day fishing rodeo and for the last 5 years we’ve had a kids fishing clinic in the first day. It’s a great event. With the bad weather we’ve had 200 kids already. So, it’s been a huge success,” Sullivan said.
Lanie McDaniel, an attendee at the Jim Krawczynski Kid’s Fishing Clinic, said she was enjoying the event.
“I’m having a lot of fun, and you get a free rod,” McDaniel said.
The final weigh-in is Sunday, the 11th, at 5 p.m., with prizes for every division plus daily winners.
The final three days of the tournament overlap with the Seafood Festival at Captain Anderson’s Marina.
