New 30A trailhead unveiled
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - There’s a new trail in Walton County connecting the Eastern Lake trail within the Point Washington State Forest.
Monday, the ribbon was cut for the trail and people immediately began walking and biking down it. The project was a partnership between the Florida Forest Service and local developer Ricky Rookis.
The goal is to give people more places they can access the natural beauty of the forest.
”Just made sense to get the community an easier access point off of 30A instead of having to go travel all the way up to 395,” Aaron Haugan, a forest ranger at the Point Washington State Forest, said. “You’re on the beach- literally a walk across the street from the beach. So, to be able to step off into the forest, it’s a completely different world. So it just allows them to get out, get some exercise in, and take a fresh breath.”
The new trailhead and parking area are located at 4695 E. Co. Highway 30A.
